I saw and heard your concert yesterday in the Bischofsmühle in Hildesheim,
Germany. I was not only astonished about your skills, I was totally thrilled.
Many, many thanks for this great evening! If I could I would hug you, just
because you let the sun shine in my heart during the concert. .. Claus from

What's up Ms. Dekker?? Thanks for performing at my high school. Since this
is the very first year that I actually see a talented singer invited, I'd really
looked forward to it. Your songs depict romance, emotional, and with full of
sensations. As a student who possess strong skills in piano and singing, this
characteristic brought me to see what you're like. Even though I do not play
guitar and I could have stayed longer to talk to you and ask questions before
you leave (I can't because I had a class to go to), I might look forward to
attend in any of your concerts in the future if your career continues within
several years. I hope to see you there...

Wow thanks for coming to Tanya’s wedding. You made a great evening
wonderful!...wasn’t a dry eye in the house when you sang the song you wrote for
your mom? (I’ll wear this ring)...wow checked out your pages (

morning. Congrats on contriving such an interesting life for yourself and
realizing many dreams...

Dear Melanie ... thank you very much for touring here in Germany. I really

Thanks for coming to Germany. I enjoyed your concert in Erkheim. I was the
first guest in Erkheim and I also bought the first CD in Erkheim. Your song
"Wounded Soldier" is great! I am a member of the german armed forces an I know,
it is very important to support the families of wounded soldiers.

WOW! This CD is awesome. Melanie Dekker is enchanting. Her vocals are
stunning. This is one impressive album that I will enjoy for a very long time!

The song 'Wounded Soldier' -- she nailed it! We listen to thousands of
stories from the soldiers and the wives she is singing about. And the stories
they tell are exactly what this song is all about. I am truly amazed.

You made my nights in Vancouver so enjoyable and I am glad I got to discover
your music. Your style reminds me at times of Sarah McLachlan, Jewel (the old
stuff) and Ani DiFranco (for the guitar rythms and for the staccato singing
style). I was impressed by your guitar playing skills too. Jason adds this
jazzy, blues, funk, flamenco flavour that just makes the whole even better.
However, beyond music are lyrics and I just can relate to so many of the small
situations and feelings you describe in your songs. I was charmed. You exude
passion, love of music, authenticity and sincerity.
Listening to you is an intimate musical journey into real life events that we
all experienced but cannot always put into words and fully understand.
Thanks for the words. Thanks for the inspiration

As I write, I am listening to your CD for the 3rd time. Just went through it
reading the lyrics and found it very moving. The songs carry huge meaning and
depth whilst being gentle listening and I think they/you are awesome.
"Stare at the rain" is so touching, so beautiful and such a perfect end song. It
feels like you are right here with us with your special voice and playing
filling the house.

Mel!...we met years ago at the King's Head in Vancouver. I even took a few
photos of you that night and sent them to you. I just checked out your website
after a long absence, and I'm glad to see that you're still turning heads where
you go! I wish you all the best, and I hope you're happy with the success that
you've achieved! I'm hoping to catch you at a concert in Vancouver again soon!

Melanie.... When I saw KT Tunstill perform for the first times several
months ago, it immediately made me think of Melanie She reminds me a bit of her,
except that Mel exudes a little more classic femininity along with her talent
and "cool". Just passing what hit me along ......

You've got a lot of great depth to your presence, including a grounded and
genuine sensuality that is one of your strongest performance assets. But the
thing that I think that really puts you over the top, besides your vocal talent,
is that in addition to that sensuality, you also strike me as a person that can
laugh at herself and not take herself so seriously because she's too busy trying
to be "sexy" and "serious". Sexy just is, and you are...You're an artist and
you're real and showing that to people by letting them see all those wonderful
sides of you that come through in your music is what is going to continue to set
you apart.

A truly talented artist today needs to have a great look and a great hook to
get to the eyes and ears of music lovers. Melanie Dekker has both attributes in
abundance. Listen to "I Haven't Even Kissed You Yet" a few times and you'll find
yourself, like I have, playing again and again in your mind.

The songs are a rootsy-pop, on the poppy side. I like it! (and I am picky)

What's up Mel? I got the pictures and cd you sent...WOW you're famous. You look
and sound great in the I said I video. When are you performing in the Los
Angeles area?! We want to check you out.
March 30, 2006 - Stephanie, Vancouver, BC, Canada
I saw you on urban rush and just wanted to let you know that your music is
great!... I really like the song to "Haven't kissed you yet"!
March 14, 2006 - Charlie Mackenzie (fellow Canadian recording artist)
I couldn't resist telling you!... Melanie's new CD comes from the heart...
fabulous songs with a voice that soars through the heavens. Her unique singing
style is flawless live.. you can hear every lyric, and she adds a touch of
vibrato at the perfect moment. Each vocal note and lyric has a purpose.. a
meaning. Dekker has a very strong stage presence and also plays a mean
guitar....She can rock like the best of them on one song and make you cry in
your beer with her sweet melodies the next....go see her live.. NOW!

Hi Melanie,
Your performance at the Harmony festival was fantastic. I’ve heard you perform a
few times several years ago and was of course blown away. Being a
songwriter/producer and guitar player, I can appreciate real talent, and you got
the whole deal going on. Smokey vocals, great right hand strumming –triplets-
going on, and most of all a real connection with your audience and great heart
felt writing style.
Good on you!
June 27, 2005 - Karl Schmidt, Reichelsheim, Germany
Hello Melanie,
11 days after your concert in Lorsch (Germany) I must write my feelings about
you and your music.
This was my third Melanie-Dekker-Concert and I was very enthused. You -
beautiful and cute; your voice - strong, clear and extraordinary; your music -
sensible, clear and full of inspiration; the text of your songs - honest and not
poor like many hits. I have not enough english words to write upon you and your
music.
I hope you will come back to Germany this year or the next year. I enjoy your
comming.
Meantime i write emails to our local radiostations like HR3, SWR3 and FFH to
wish my favorite songs from you (special "Oh-ee-Oh" and "Stare at the rain")
Oh i have still a question. What means the letters XO in your signature.
I wish you all the best for your life and your future.
Karl - an extra special fan.
June 22, 2005 - Tina, Bad Driburg, Germany

June 20, 2005 - Stefan Sillner , Ulm, Germany
Hi Mel, I enjoyed your concert in Ulm last Friday and think you are great singer
and a very cute girl indeed ;-) I like your spirit and was impressed that you
played in front of a small bunch of people and still got them going and cheering
which is quite unusual for the people from South Germany (I am from the south so
I know what I am talking about ;-) I also heard that in Canada is a women
surplus and now I think of making my next holiday trip to Vancouver *smile*
Keep cheering people up with your music!
All the best from Germany, Stefan

I work for UPS as a truck driver and after a long day in traffic your music
unwinds and releases all the stresses of my life.
February 20, 2005 - B Agee, Nashville, TN
I'm speechless. The voice, the songs, the beauty and the infectious talent
from you Mel can't be put in a message. It can however be put in a cd player, on
stage or on radio. Your songs CHANGE LIVES. That's what being a gifted creator
and artist in my opinion is defined as. I don't need to wish you luck, you need
a record deal!!!!

She's the girl that lives next door to John Mayer (musically). Her lyrics
are real and that's hard to find these days. Someone with money should get
behind this woman before she blows up so big that i'm selling the dollar bill
she signed for me on ebay for $500!
August 28, 2004 - Pepe Paras, Writer/Designer, New York, USA
Mel, you amaze me every time I hear your music. You are "so good," so
fucking insightful and smart. The other day, I played "Stare at the Rain,"
and repeated it several times over. It's really one of the best songs ever made.
I'd put it along side "ANY" great singer/songwriter "ever." I am obsessed with
the dream that you make it!
August 16, 2004 - Carli Robson, Duncan, BC, Canada
My husband and I were at the Whistler concert on August 7th. He brought me
there to celebrate my 30th birthday. What a wonderful day. Your performance
really impressed us! I kept forgetting there wasn't a band with you. You just
seemed to take over the whole stage on your own. Thanks for a great time!
August 11, 2004 - Racquel Lacson, North Vancouver (

Hearing you play live, seeing you stump your feet while you play and knock
on your guitar was an awesome experience. Thank you for making such wonderful
music to listen to. I look forward to seeing you again and I hope that you¹ll
always stay approachable.
August 8, 2004 - m.j., Vancouver/Whistler

I'm walking on air. This evening with you at the Jams really is the ultimate
highlight... I can't believe I said that! Everything you do and the way you do
it, it's all so intense, so convincing and so real. After you had left, people
kept talking about you all the time. You even managed to make me SPEECHLESS
several times! Nothing like me! Your voice and guitar is so intense. And the
atmosphere in the songs, together with your performance makes every song so
colourful. It can be emotional, cheerful, fragile, swinging, rocking. THANK YOU
SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! For giving me the inspiration in every possible way!

Hi Melanie, Thanks again for the great show at the JUBEZ in Karlsruhe ! I
bought your 'Lekker Dekker'- acoustic CD and I like it even more than the band

I have to say that your musicians are g r e a t! I wish you good luck and

November 21, 2003 - Doug Hutchinson, Philosophy Prof. @ U of Toronto
"Epicurean Sex Love and Friendship" was the name of the seminar I did last week. Amidst the quotations from Lucretius, I introduced the U of T students to 7 of
your songs, which I wove into my presentation, ending with a focussed look at
the lyrics and music of "Epicurean". I arranged them from seductive and
romantically idealistic ("Blush", "I'll Wear This Ring") through the more
realistic songs that acknowledge that erotic love brings disability and
dependence ("Speechless", "My Little Addiction", "Stupid") to the ones that
express the disillusion and emptiness of the foolish kinds of relationships
("Epicurean", with an exeunt of "I Said I"). Thank you! It seems to have been
very well received, both your music and my whole talk.
November 1,
2003 - Jag, Kelowna, BC, Canada
Excellent Mel! the tour; the coverage; the music scene -along with people you're
cultivating your art, style and music with. It's like those grapes you
mentioned, which "properly pressed at harvest, yield a sweetness for the
creation of a wine... soothing to one's soul-allowings one to contemplate one's
every present moments under the tarp of blue skies and warm sun!!!" Puurfecto!
:} . Keep the ideas growing....You are a gift, girl. And a gifted girl.... :)

You have such great stage presence! Your connection to the crowd is awesome:
very friendly, sincere, and approachable. Everyone walked away from that concert
feeling like they knew you to some degree... and just sound great - when you go
for some of those lower pitches, your voice takes on that slightly husky tinge
that just oozes sex appeal. All in all, I can't believe we're still able to get
you to come and play little venues like Sister Gooch! ..."I love the new CD..."I
Said I" is still my favorite :)
July 13,
2003 - Chris B. The Green Room, Vancouver
I absolutely, completely 100%, enjoyed the show. Loved the way you moved, talked
to the crowd, and, of course, performed! Would love to see more of you in the

your show. Definitely on my best ever list!

Hey Melanie, I just got home from your show at Beans in North Vancouver
(Thursday, July 10th)... We came down expecting to see a good singer, but you
absolutely blew us away. I am a fan forever and it is so inspiring to see
another women working hard and busting it at a little coffee shop (by the way,
what are you doing playing in a coffee shop in North Van??? You should be
playing GM Place at least!). Thank you so much!!!

Hi Melanie,
I caught your show at Settebello last night. You have a refreshingly original
voice with a rich resonant timbre and subtle harmonics that is joyful, fun and
interesting to listen to. Combined with your rhythmic, original, tasty playing
and songs, I could close my eyes and escape into an exciting audio landscape for
awhile. You're such a welcome change from all the over-produced, overbearing,
exaggerated-voiced female performers out there.
July 11, 2002 - Bob
Brown, Kaos Entertainment
ASKING ME WHICH SONG I LIKE BEST IS
SIMILAR TO "DOES THIS DRESS MAKE MY BUTT LOOK FAT?" THERE ARE SEVERAL HITS ON
YOUR CD'S POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS 50 OR 60 PERCENT OF THEM. YOU SHOULD BE SOMEBODY
BIG AND THE NUMBER OF MAJOR FEMALE VOCALISTS COMMING FROM CANADA IN THE LAST TEN
YEARS MUST BE SCAREING THE AMERICAN COMPANIES INTO SLEEPLESSNESS. YOU ARE MERELY
BEING OUT MARKETED BY UNSEEN AND UNKNOWN FORCES IN DETROIT...
July 11, 2002 - Sean
Hogan (Country Artist), Nashville
Have you ever been to Nashville
before? Well, if you havent you have now! Between you and Bob Dylan
and John Hiatt and some new Sean Hogan well I was transfixed Mel. Love your
voice... Blue blanket could be a hit! well it is now waiting to happen; it's
just maybe nobody knows yet. I want to hear that Saturday night tune that you
played at Steamers back on May 3rd!
July 1, 2002 - Jen

We saw you play in Banff last
summer at the Rose & Crown. You asked a trivia question ... then we won your CD!
~It's great by the way...Duff and I wanted to let you know that we're getting
married this August out at the Shuswap and we're using your song "I wear this
ring" in the ceremony. It is very special to us and we wanted to let you know that you've touched our
hearts. Thanks and we look forward to hearing you play again...
June 19, 2002 - Joe
Shapiro, Seattle
Sitting there watching, listening, and singing along with you really felt right.
By which I mean your music didn't feel like just a bunch of songs. Each piece
was shot through with honest emotion. Yet you wove them together to create more
than any song alone could be.
April 17, 2002 -

Just listening to your cd that I got in
Banff couple of months back ... Rose and Crown or somewhere like that I think
the place was called, went to see you play a couple of nights ... Played it to

we love the Album ... When are you touring Ireland??

I received your CD and it's really great! I've listened to it a lot and I'm
really impressed with your sound. I think your lyrics have a big part in what's
going on. You have a great way with words, and your songs have a story the
listener can follow. I Can't, I Won't is a good example of a story you can
relate to, and it is just beautiful... It's strong lyric, melody and
composition. I consider playing your tunes on SSR to be a total honor. My two
fav's are I Can't, I Won't, and I'm Coming Around. But it's all great!

Hi Mel, RE: Lucky 7: Holy Crap !!, You've out done yourself this time, I think
that's the best work I've heard from you. There is so much passion and feeling
in your voice and playing. I listened to it with headphones last night and on my
discman on my to work. Without sounding to weird, it seems like I'm sitting
alone with you in a room and you're singing just to me.
December 4, 2001 - Howard Berger, Comedian
Hey! I was cruising down the streets of
Los Angeles today listen to your cd. I think I broke the world record for
listening to "heidi" 58 times in one day. The other songs were great too.
five minutes after the call and six weeks really sound amazing with a band
behind it.
