Finding her
voice
Melanie Dekker
returns to Whistler with new album and even higher ambitions
By Nicole Fitzgerald
After eight years of making records, Melanie Dekker is taking a real vacation.
Not the kind of holiday that boils down to Christmas pudding with the family or
a weekend skiing getaway at her former stomping ground in Whistler, but a bona
fide, cram your carry-on bag under an airplane seat and exchange your Canadian
dollars for South African rands getaway that is meant to give this 24-7
songwriting machine a break.

Whisperin' and Hollerin' - United Kingdom
Having apparently
already created somewhat of a splash in Canada, singer/songwriter Melanie Dekker
is about ready to make an impact on our shores as well. Cuts above the usual
acoustic-pop dross, Dekker offers cleanly-produced fare with much more lyrical
punch and frustrated emotions than the glut of Brand-X guitar-strumming lookers.
… It’s got a you-are-there perspective that is hip and contemporary…despite the
angst and courageously candid twists, Dekker often sounds quite cheerful.

... "While producing tracks for Dekker, Zabit
and Church received a call from producer David Kershenbaum, who had been hipped
to them by Tom Menrath of GC Pro. Kershenbaum flew up, heard Dekker and signed
on as co- producer (with Zabit and Church) for Dekker's upcoming album on SME. A
very good start."

Roots Sweden CD Review

Melanie Dekker -- Revealed
Imagine Sheryl
Crow with more bite, Jewel with a slightly country flavor: That’s Melanie Dekker
in summary. Expecting another Triple A-formatted singer/songwriter,
well-polished but probably no different than a number of Paula Cole clones, I
have to admit by being pleasantly surprised by the rougher edges beneath the
folksy pop of Revealed.

In-Tune Review
Genuine and
heartfelt, Melanie Dekker shares her own emotions and experiences with the world
through song. Her easy guitar strums, natural voice, and relatable lyrics, all
fuse together to create an undeniable charm ... Melanie Dekker is a guilty
pleasure. She’s released an album that you can jam to alone and sing to at the
top of your lungs ...

A little Faith
goes a long way
January 12, 2006,
Whistler, BC -- Whistlerites might remember Melanie Dekker’s house tracks as a
guest DJ at Buffalo Bill’s, or singing covers mountaintop with Whistler Heli-Skiing,
or some may have been lucky enough to catch her opening for Faith Hill in
Whistler.
Although Melanie hasn’t been a regular face about town lately, Dekker fans will
be pleased to hear the charming, giggling, storytelling singer is stepping out
of the shadows of the road dog, note slinger life and is making ready to play in
the big leagues, with her growing credits including a recent performance with
Diana Krall for former U.S. President Bill Clinton and the recording of her
premier studio album last fall with Grammy-Award-winning producer David
Kershenbaum.

THE FAITH HILL CONCERT
Aug 7, 2005
by THE TIGER'S EYE
Melanie Dekker is described
as a mix of Cheryl Crow, Jewel and Alanis. A young blonde-braided longhaired
beautiful young woman appears on stage greeted by a fan yelling “Melanie, You
Rock!”. The crowd was getting excited as she cheerfully entertained us with her
strong guitar rhythmic fingers. The acoustics sounded great as she playing solo
on stage. Her high energy got my feet stomping, and she was clearly “happy to be
here”. I liked her mix of funky, progressive, pop sounding style. I felt a
strong yet gentle singing voice in all her music songs. While the last song
“Speechless” was performed, all the clouds were clearing to show a beautiful
blue night sky.
